This vintage Commodore semi-hollow electric bass is a classic example of the Japanese-made instruments produced during the late 1960s and early 1970s for export markets. Finished in a traditional sunburst with a double cutaway semi-hollow body and F-holes, the bass features a distinctive vintage look inspired by popular hollowbody bass designs of the era.
Built in Japan (as marked on the neck plate: “Steel Adjustable Neck – Made in Japan”), the bass is fitted with two humbucker pickups, independent volume and tone controls, a floating wooden bridge, and a trapeze tailpiece. The bolt-on neck with rosewood fingerboard provides comfortable playability, while the hollow construction delivers a warm, resonant tone well suited to vintage rock, blues, and classic bass styles.
Instruments like this were often produced by well-known Japanese factories such as Matsumoku, Kawai, or FujiGen and sold under a variety of importer brand names. Today they are appreciated for their unique vintage character, distinctive styling, and warm hollowbody sound.
